Spinach Rice/Pulao

Spinach rice is healthy rice recipe. It is prepared by adding spinach and few spices along with rice. Spinach rice goes well with raita.


Cooking Time: 20-25 mins
Preparation Time: 10-15 mins
Serve: 2


Long grain basmati rice: 1 cup
Spinach: 1&1/2 cup(finely chopped)
Onion: 1 small(finely chopped)
Ginger garlic paste: 1/4 tsp(optional)
Cumin seed: 1/3 tsp
Clove: 2 nos
Cinnamon stick: 1/2 inch
Black cardamom: 1
Bay Leaf: 1
Salt to taste


  1. Wash the rice and keep aside.
  2. Heat ghee in pan and add cumin seed, clove, Cinnamon stick, black cardamom, bay leaf and fry for min then add ginger garlic paste and chopped onion, salt and cook till onion turn light brown in color.Add chopped spinach and cook till spinach water dries up.
  3. Add rice and fry for min. 
  4. Then add 2 cups of water and cook on low to medium heat. 
  5. Cover the pan and cook till rice is done.
  6. Serve with curry or dal.

Can also cook rice in rice cooker/pressure cooker.
Ginger garlic paste is optional.
