Paneer Butter Masala

Paneer Butter Masala is well known and delicious North Indian Paneer Preparation, where paneer is cooked in tomato based gravy. Whenever we go out we order paneer butter masala.


Cooking Time: 30 mins
Preparation Time: 15 mins
Serve: 3-4


Paneer: 200 gm
Onion: 2 medium(finely chopped)
Tomato: 2 medium( blanched and pureed)
Ginger garlic paste: 1 tsp
Cashew nuts: 6-8
Turmeric pwd: 1/4 tsp
Cumin pwd: 3/4 tsp
Chilli pwd: 1/2 tsp
Garam masala pwd: 1/2 tsp
Coriander pwd: 1/3 tsp
Fresh cream: 2 tbsp
Kasoori methi: 1/2 tsp(crushed)
Salt to taste
Butter: 3-4 tbsp


  1. Heat 1 tbsp butter in pan/kadai and fry paneer for about a min.
  2. Again heat 1 tbsp butter in pan/ kadai and saute chopped onion and cashew for about 3-4 mins. Cool down the mixture and make fine paste.
  3. Heat 1-2 tbsp butter in kadai and add ginger garlic paste cook for 1-2 min on medium heat then add pureed tomato, turmeric pwd, cumin pwd, chilli pwd, coriander pwd, salt and mix well. Cook for another 4-5 mins.
  4. Add cashew onion paste mix well and cook till butter starts separating.
  5. Add paneer and little water and mix well. Cook for 3-5 mins on low heat.
  6. Sprinkle kasoori methi and mix lightly.
  7. Remove from heat and add fresh cream and mix  lightly.
  8. Serve hot with roti, naan etc


    Can use curd instead of cream.
