Butter Naan

Naan is very popular among Indian bread and its my favorite too. I prefer Naan over any other Indian bread item so thought to give it a try and got the recipe from here. I tried to prepare Naan earlier also but they didn't come out very well, so this time I was bit scared but the outcome of my effort was awesome. It was soft and delicious.

RECIPE:

Cooking Time: 15-20 mins
Preparation Time: 1-2 hr( Including resting time)

Ingredients:

  • All purpose flour/maida: 3 cup
  • Warm water: 1 cup
  • Dry active yeast: 1&1/2 tsp
  • Sugar: 1&1/2 tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Butter: 6 tbsp
  • Curd/ yogurt: 3 tbsp
Method:

  • Add the dry yeast and sugar to the warm water and stir and leave aside for 4-5 mins .
  • combine  the flour and salt and sieve.

  • In large bowl combine the  all purpose flour/maida, yeast mixture, butter and all the yogurt/curd.
  • Mix all this into a soft dough. Knead the dough till it is smooth and stretchy.
  • Cover the dough and allow to rest for at least 1 hr or till the dough doubles in volume.
  • Once again knead the dough gently.

  • Divide the dough into equal size ball. It will make around 8-9  round balls.
  • Roll out each ball into circle( shown in pic) of medium thickness.
  • Pull the one edge of the circle to form the Naan shape. Do not pull too hard or you may tear the Naan.
  • Preheat your oven 200 C.
  • Place the Naan in baking tray and place  the tray into the oven and cook till it begins to puff  and get lightly brown. Flip the Naan and cook till get lightly brown.
  • Remove from oven, apply butter and serve hot with any curry of your choice.

Note:
  • To make garlic naan brush the naan with some butter and sprinkle minced garlic over its surface and then bake.
  • Can prepare naan using tava/griddle. Heat the tava/griddle and place the naan and  cook from both the side.
