Aloo Matar

Aloo Matar is easy to prepare. It goes well with any thing. In this recipe, boiled potato and green peas are cooked in tomato gravy with few spices.


Cooking Time: 15 -20 mins
Preparation Time: 20 mins


Aloo/Potato: 2 medium( boiled and diced)
Green peas: 1/2 cup
Tomato: 1 large(finely chopped)
Onion: 1 medium(finely chopped)
Cumin seed: 1/4 tsp
Ginger garlic paste:1 tsp
Turmeric pwd: 1/4 tsp
Chilli pwd: 1/2 tsp
Cumin pwd: 1 tsp
Kitchen king masala: 1/2 tsp(optional)
Coriander pwd: 1/2 tsp
Garam masala pwd: 1/2 tsp
Salt to taste
Coriander leaves: 2 tbsp( finely chopped)


  1. Heat oil in a pan/kadai. 
  2. Add cumin seeds and when it crackles add ginger garlic paste, fry for a minute. 
  3. Add onion and cook till it turns golden brown in color, then add tomato,red chilli pwd, turmeric pwd, cumin pwd, kitchen king masala and coriander pwd and cook till tomato becomes soft and oil starts separating.
  4. Add green peas, potatoes and fry for 2 mins. 
  5. Add salt, Garam masala and about 3/4 cup water.Bring it to boil and cook for another 5-6 mins. Garnish with coriander leaves.
  6. Serve hot with poori/paratha/rice.
